This weeks Newies include:

Christina Aguilera from the CD Back to Basics – She’s got a fantastic vocal range and we recently saw ‘Back to Basics’ tour concert on TV – the one she performed in Melborne, Australia

A semi-newie by Aretha Franklin from the CD Respect – The Very Best of Aretha Franklin. She is known to the music world as “The Queen of Soul” and is affectionately called “Sister Ree” by her fans. She is renowned for her soul recordings but is also adept at jazz, rock, blues, pop, gospel, and even opera. She is widely acclaimed for her passionate, soulful vocal style, which is aided by a massive and powerful vocal range.

This week’s Myspace Artist Review includes:

Alien Chatter with Metropolis from their latest ground breaking release Invasion
Alien Chatter is Satnam Singh and Rodney Lee. From Alien Chatter’s Myspace site it reads… ‘Not only are we hearing South Asian rhythms mashed with club beats and hip-hop, but the West is also experiencing an Indian cultural “INVASION” with the recent mainstream success of Bollywood films.’

Be sure to check them out at: http://www.alienchatter.com

Ananda Project with Fireworks featuring Terance Downs from the album ‘ Fire Flower’ released in 2007. Ananda Project is the brainchild of producer, Chris Brann, as we read on the Amazon site – “Fire Flower” is a great blend of Future Jazz, Neo-Soul, Deep House, Ambient, R&B, Broken Beat, Salsa, & Funk. Theres certainly some of those elements in this awesome track that grabbed our ears right from the start.

Thanks to Mano Reza Kashef for his Moments and Whatnots – A wonderful Womack and Womack track.

In the final part of the episode, our Bring it Back section, we include:

Hugh Masekela from the CD – Liberation – A wonderful mellow, atmospheric track from an awesome artist. Hugh originally played primarily in jazz ensembles, with guest appearances on albums by The Byrds and Paul Simon. In 1987, he had a hit single with “Bring Him Back Home” which became an anthem for the movement to free Nelson Mandela.

Touch – This is a production by disco specialist Tony Valor and DJ Tom Moulton, and it is from Touch’s 1976 album called energizer and also a 12″ single release. Prof’s LP was imported so we’re not sure if there was a UK release but he first heard it on the popular ‘Soul Spectrum’ with Greg Edwards on London’s Capital Radio all those years ago. There was an interesting instrumental version of ‘Love Hangover’ on the same album.

Gerald Albright from the 2004 CD – Kickin’ It Up – Born in Los Angeles, Gerald grew up in its South Central neighborhood. He began piano lessons at an early age, even though he professed no great interest in the instrument. His love of music picked up considerably when he was given a saxophone that belonged to his piano teacher. Immediately after college, Gerald began to master his talent by working extensively in the studio with such artists as Anita Baker, Ray Parker, Jr., The Temptations, and Olivia Newton-John. A few months after graduating from college, Gerald joined Patrice Rushen, who was in the process of forming her own band, in which he played the saxophone.

Grey & Hanks – The duo were Len Ron Hanks and Zane Grey recording as Grey & Hanks between 1978 & 1980, and have written songs for L.T.D, Tavares, Millie Jackson, Norman Connors, Lenny Williams and Debra Laws – It is worth finding out more from http://www.soulwalking.co.uk

We end the show with the wonderful Taste of Paradise.
