Smooth Groovers Show – S6-11

Welcome to Episode 6-11, i.e: Season 6 Episode 11 of the Smooth Groovers Review.

We kick off the show, as usual with a memory from the world of films or TV, a familiar sound , to those particularly in the UK, who watched TOP OF THE POPs -British music chart TV show, made by the BBC and originally broadcast weekly from 1 January 1964 to 30 July 2006. It was traditionally shown every Thursday evening on BBC 1, before being moved to Fridays in 1996, and then moved to Sundays on BBC Two in 2005, the axed a year later but survives as christmas specials and the  Shows “Top Of The Pops 2 ”  which contains archive footage and special features.

If you are a soul fan and you do like sound of the composer, and synthesiser specialist well known for hits like “Rain Forest” and “19”, you are in for a treat – Just released in June 2011, featuring the voice of the late great Marvin Gaye.

REZA SALEH
An awesome bass player and multi-instrumentalist from Jakarta Indonesia, with a great passion for music.  He was the winner of best New Solo Smooth Jazz Artist at the 2006 Long Beach Jazz Festival and  has been hired to open for the likes of Peter White, Jeff Gollub, Richard Elliot, Gerald Albright, and The Brand New Heavies. Check this out very jazz funky track.

Matt Marshak from the CD Urban Folktales
We read from his website: In 2001, Marshak released his debut CD Preservation and began to get even more notice in New York, which led to CD 101.9’s endorsement in 2003. He opened for the popular Guitars & Saxes tour and in 2004 offered This Time Around, followed by Groovosphere in 2006 and On the Rocks in 2008, the latter earning praise from JazzTimes as “one of the best smooth jazz CDs of the year, for sure.” On the Rocks also delivered a Top 30 nationwide smooth jazz hit with the cover song, which was also played extensively on Sirius Jazz Café radio station.

While excited about the release of Urban Folktales, Marshak—never one to settle down musically—has also been working on an all-acoustic guitar, new age and winter-themed music, as well as what promises to be a beefy juicy modern blues record. “It’s very exciting to be working on so many sounds that have been dancing in my head for years,” he says.

East West Connection from the CD The More I Get
We also recommend that  you check out another great CD by this band from 2005 entitled: Nothing can hold us back
